We looked at example resumes and evaluated them for
1) What stands out as strengths of the person and/or the resume? What makes you want to learn more about the person?
2) What stands out as a weakness? What makes you lose interest in the person?
3) What job(s) do you think this person is a good candidate for? Why?

We then looked at a way to improve a resume:
Have each entry begin with what you actually DID or PRODUCED for the organization, company, or clients. The results you produced should get front billing. Here are some examples:

Further advice, from www.quintcareers.com:
When possible, list accomplishments that are specific and measurable. Quantify whenever possible. In other words, if you have specific numbers, use them. Example- Increased sales by 50% from previous year. Also, if you can honestly use superlatives like “first,” “largest,” “most,” “only,” etc., use them. Example- Decreased overhead costs by 20% through implementation of first warehouse inventory database.

Share with me a document titled 11 NAME resume draft 2017. If you already have a draft resume, include it. If not, make a list on which you brainstorms lists of

Today's Connections Prompt
In your Google doc titled 10 NAME CCP Connections, copy and paste this quote by Austrian poem Rainer Maria Rilke. Write a response in which you consider his words in the context of your life and your thoughts about your future.
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” ― Rainer Maria Rilke

Sept 5
Our first class!
All classes will begin with a ten minute writing period based on a Connections Prompt that I will provide you.
The first prompt was on the Google doc called 11 NAME CCP Connections that I shared with you. Subsequent prompts will be on the wiki and you can cut and paste them into the document at the beginning of each class.
We did the 4 corners exercise to determine what post-La Paz plans are most likely for us, in order to focus our work together this year. Students grouped themselves by their interest level in the following plans.

1. Studying in the United States
2. Studying in Europe.
3. Attending a Costa Rican public university
4. Attending a Costa Rican private university
5. Taking a gap year between La Paz and university to travel or work
6. Start working right away after graduating La Paz

We then talked about stress and placed ourselves on the stress continuum for the following concerns.
1. Deciding what you will do after you graduate from La Paz
2. Deciding what you will do for a job or career in the future
3. Completing the applications for university
4. Paying for university
5. Finding ways to balance all elements of life
6. Doing well enough on the exams to earn the IB diploma
7. Meeting expectations in one particular class, most stressed
